It's not quite the new year, but 2017 couldn't get here fast enough. In that vein, I would love to share my favorite reads of 2016, starting with my favorite overall--and one that came to me right in January of this year, Juliet Takes a Breath by Gabby Rivera. New adult, coming of age, queer politics, friendship, romance, the unbearable whiteness of Portland, the importance of finding your people--it's all here, and I love it so much.
Favorite nonfiction goes to another A-Camp alumna, with Atlas Obscura. I love my fiction gay and my non-fiction worthy of a cabinet of curiosities, and Atlas Obscura fills that quality nicely. So many strange and wonderful things within the covers! I still haven't finished, preferring to dip in and out. I loved it, and if you love the strange, bizarre corners of Earth, so will you.
Book grail of the year: I finally opened my wallet and got a copy of The Betsy-Tacy Companion (I'm often rereading one or all of the series), and it is everything I have dreamed of.
